Conducted by Maysaa Abu Lughod and Lana Mushtaq
The participants had the chance to practice percussion, singing, and conducting as a form of music therapy. Whether they were musical or not, this event was for everyone!
We then learned a few basics on the percussions, with each participant getting a chance to practice on their own drum. We did a few exercises that challenged us to focus deeply on playing the drums, before proceeding to sing and drum to three more songs. By the end, everyone was doing what resonated most with them; some were drumming, others singing, others moving around to release what they could. It was powerful to witness everyone in a united circle, free of judgment and shame. We then closed the session with words of encouragement from the organizers.
